File Converter Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the File Converter app for iPhone and the website fileconverterapp.com collect, why, who processes it and what choices you have.

It applies to File Converter version 2.0.0 and later (App Store ID 6741115379) and to the website fileconverterapp.com. File Converter is made by Furkan Kaya, an independent developer based in Turkey, who is responsible for the data described here ("we", "us"). Questions: furkan18388@gmail.com.

The short version

  • Your files stay on your iPhone. The app converts them on the device. They are never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's, and conversions work offline.
  • There are no accounts and no ads. We don't sell personal data, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • The app sends usage statistics and diagnostics to Firebase Analytics (Google). They are linked to a random app-install ID that is also attached to your purchase profile at Adapty, never to your name, email address or Apple Account, and they never include your files.
  • Apple handles payments. Our subscription service, Adapty, receives your purchase history, basic device information including your IP address, and whether you installed the app from one of our own Apple Ads campaigns.
  • If you send feedback, we receive your message, the email address you type (optional) and a few device details. If you report an answer in Ask this file, that question and answer reach us only when you tap Send.
  • The free tools on fileconverterapp.com convert files inside your browser without uploading them. The website uses Google Analytics.

Your files

Every conversion runs on your iPhone: images, video, audio, documents to PDF, the PDF tools, compression and ZIP. The app does not upload your files to our servers or to anyone else, and conversions work without an internet connection. Converted files stay in the app's library on your iPhone until you delete them or delete the app. We never receive a copy.

When you save or share a file, it goes only where you choose, such as Photos, a folder in the Files app or another app, through the save and share screens of iOS. If you open a file that is stored in iCloud Drive, iOS first downloads it from Apple's iCloud to your iPhone; the conversion itself still happens on the device.

Permissions. The app uses the microphone only while you record audio in the app. To save converted photos and videos, it asks for add-only access to your photo library, which lets it add items but not see your library. When you pick photos, Apple's photo picker gives the app only the items you select.

Our analytics never include file names, folder names, file contents, file metadata such as location data, search text, or what you ask about a file.

Ask this file

Ask this file answers questions about a PDF, Word, RTF, TXT or HTML file and summarizes it. It runs on Apple Intelligence's on-device model (iOS 26 or later, on supported devices and languages). The file's text, your questions and the answers stay on your iPhone, and the conversation is not saved. The only exception is an answer you choose to report: if you tap Report answer, the feedback form opens with the question and the answer already filled in, and you can edit them. They are sent to us only if you tap Send, like any other feedback message (see Feedback and support). The file itself is not attached, but the question and answer can quote text from it. Our analytics only count how the feature is used, for example that a question was asked and whether an answer was produced, never the question or the answer itself.

App analytics and diagnostics

We use Firebase Analytics, a Google service, to understand how the app is used and where it fails, so we can fix problems and decide what to improve. It records:

  • Product interaction: which screens are opened and which features are used, for example that a video was converted to MP3, the input and output formats, size and length ranges, how long a conversion took, whether a subscription screen was shown and whether a purchase was started or completed.
  • Diagnostics: error codes when a conversion fails, and technical details such as the type of device (iPhone, iPad or Mac), the app version and whether you have Pro.
  • Information Firebase adds to every event: a random identifier that Firebase creates for this installation of the app (the app instance ID), the device model, iOS version, app version and language, an approximate location such as your country or city, which Google derives from your IP address, and when the app was first opened and used.
  • Apple Ads attribution: whether the app was installed from one of our own Apple Ads campaigns, which Firebase reads from Apple's Apple Ads attribution, so we can measure those campaigns.

The app uses the version of Firebase Analytics without advertising-identifier support, so it does not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA). Firebase's collection of the identifier for vendor (IDFV) is turned off, ad storage and ad personalization signals are turned off, and we don't set a user ID. The app instance ID is also attached to your purchase profile at Adapty (see Purchases and subscriptions), so this data is linked to that random ID and to your purchases. It is never linked to your name, email address or Apple Account, and it is not used to show you ads or to track you, which is why the app never asks for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency).

The app has no setting to switch analytics off. If you delete the app, its app instance ID is removed from your iPhone with it, and a new installation starts with a new one. Google's own use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Purchases and subscriptions

File Converter Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, so we never see your card details, your Apple Account password or your billing address. Apple's handling of your purchase is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.

We use Adapty to check whether you have Pro, to show the subscription plans, trials and offers and to record purchases, trials, renewals and cancellations. Which plans, trials and offers you see can depend on your purchase history. Adapty creates a profile for your installation, identified by a random ID rather than your name or email address, and receives:

  • your App Store purchase and subscription records for File Converter, such as the product, dates, trial status, renewal status and transaction identifiers;
  • basic device and app information, such as the device model, screen size, iOS version, app version, language and region, time zone, App Store country, when the app was installed and the identifier for vendor (IDFV), a code iOS gives each developer for its own apps on your device;
  • your IP address, which Adapty's code in the app looks up by calling the ipify service (api.ipify.org), so ipify also receives that request;
  • Apple's Apple Ads attribution token, which tells us whether the app was installed from one of our own Apple Ads campaigns. Apple designed it to work without the advertising identifier and without tracking you across apps;
  • the Firebase app instance ID described above, which links your purchase profile with the usage statistics described above.

When you open the app for the first time, Adapty's code in the app also registers the installation with Adapty's attribution service (api-ua.adapty.io). The app uses Adapty's version without advertising-identifier support, so Adapty does not receive the IDFA. We use this information to give you Pro, to restore your purchases on a new device, to choose which plans, trials and offers to show you, to understand which plans and features lead to subscriptions and to measure our own Apple Ads campaigns. Your purchase profile is never linked to your name, email address or Apple Account.

Feedback and support

In the app, Settings > Send feedback lets you write to us. Report answer in Ask this file opens the same form, pre-filled with the question you asked and the answer you got; you can edit or delete that text, and nothing is sent until you tap Send. When you send it, the app sends your message (including a reported question and answer), the email address you enter (optional, only if you want a reply) and these details: app version, iOS version, device model, language and whether you have Pro. No files are sent. The form travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our support server at fileconverter.furkankaya.com.tr.

If the server can't be reached, the app offers to open an email to furkan18388@gmail.com with the same text, which you can review and send from your own mail app. If you email us directly, we receive your email address and whatever you write.

We use feedback, including reported answers, only to answer you and to fix the problem or consider the idea you describe. It is not added to analytics and not used for marketing.

What we don't do

  • We don't have accounts or sign-in, in the app or on the website.
  • We don't sell, rent or trade personal data.
  • We don't show ads, and the app contains no advertising SDKs or ad networks.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps and websites, and we don't share data with data brokers.

The website

Free tools. The 13 free tools on fileconverterapp.com (HEIC to JPG, PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, WEBP to JPG, Compress image, JPG to PDF, Merge PDF, Split PDF, PDF to JPG, MP4 to MP3, M4A to MP3, Voice memo to MP3 and WAV to MP3), and the same converters wherever they appear on the site, including inside our guides, convert files inside your web browser. Your files are not uploaded to our server or to anyone else; the result is created on your device and downloaded from your browser.

To do this, a tool page loads open-source code the first time you use it: heic2any from jsDelivr, and pdf-lib, pdf.js, lamejs and JSZip from cdnjs (Cloudflare), depending on the tool. Those services receive the request for the code, with your IP address and browser details, like any web request. They don't receive your files.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (through Firebase) to count visits and see which pages and tools are used. It records the pages you view, the page you came from, an approximate location such as your country or city (derived from your IP address by Google), your device and browser type and language, and clicks on App Store links, converter pages and links to other websites. For the free tools it records which tool you used, how many files you added, how long a conversion took and whether you downloaded the result; if a conversion fails, it records the file type (extension), the file size rounded to megabytes and a short error message. It never records file names or file contents.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to recognize returning visitors. You can block these cookies in your browser settings or install Google's Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Other services. Icons (Font Awesome) are loaded from cdnjs. On the home pages, the QR code that links to the App Store is an image from api.qrserver.com, which receives that App Store link and your browser's request. Like every website, our web host receives standard request information with each visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. The website has no sign-up and no ads.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the service providers named in this policy, and only for the purposes described here:

  • Google: Firebase Analytics for the app and Google Analytics for the website; Gmail stores emails sent to our address.
  • Adapty: subscription status, purchase records, device information, your IP address and Apple Ads attribution for the app; Adapty's attribution service registers new installations.
  • ipify (api.ipify.org): receives the request the app makes to look up your IP address for Adapty.
  • Apple: App Store payments and subscriptions, and Apple Ads attribution, which tells us whether an installation came from one of our own Apple Ads campaigns.
  • Website services: cdnjs (Cloudflare) and jsDelivr deliver open-source code and icons, api.qrserver.com draws the App Store QR code, and our web host serves the pages. They receive standard request information, never your files.

These providers process the data under their own terms and privacy commitments. We only work with providers that give your data the same or equal protection as described in this policy and as required by Apple's App Store Review Guidelines. We don't share personal data with anyone else unless the law requires it.

How long we keep data

  • Your files: we keep none. They stay on your device until you delete them.
  • Analytics (app and website): Google keeps event-level data for the retention period set in our Google Analytics settings (Google offers 2 or 14 months) and then deletes it. Reports that contain only totals can be kept longer.
  • Purchase records at Adapty: kept while they are needed to give you Pro and restore your purchases. You can ask us to delete them.
  • Feedback and emails: kept only as long as we need them to answer you and fix the problem, then deleted. You can ask us to delete them at any time.

Children

File Converter and the website are not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example through the feedback form, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, for example in the EU or the UK (GDPR), in Turkey (Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data, KVKK) or in California (CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, to receive a copy of it, and to complain to your data protection authority. To use any of these rights, to withdraw a consent you gave, or to ask us to delete your data, email furkan18388@gmail.com. We reply as soon as we can, within the time the law allows.

Analytics data is not tied to your name or email address, so we can't find it from your email address alone; deleting the app removes its analytics identifier from your iPhone. For feedback, tell us the email address you used. For purchase and analytics data, include the order ID from Apple's receipt email: with it we can find your Adapty profile and the app-instance ID linked to it, and delete both.

You can also:

  • cancel a subscription on your iPhone in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions;
  • allow or deny microphone and Photos access at any time in the iOS Settings app;
  • delete the app, which removes its library, its settings and its analytics identifier from your device;
  • block cookies or use Google's opt-out add-on for the website.

Where data is processed

Google and Adapty process the data they receive on their own servers, which may be outside your country, including in the United States. We read feedback from Turkey, and emails to our Gmail address are stored by Google.

Security

Because your files never leave your device, they are protected by your iPhone's own security. Feedback is sent over HTTPS, and analytics and purchase data travel over encrypted connections to Google and Adapty. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep what we collect to the minimum described here.

Older versions of the app

Versions before 2.0.0 converted documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, RTF, TXT, HTML and ODT) and compressed PDF and Office files on our conversion server, so those files were uploaded for conversion. Images, video and audio were already converted on the device. If you still use a 1.x version, update the app: from version 2.0.0, every conversion runs on your iPhone.

Versions before 2.0.0 could also ask for permission to track. If you allowed it, Firebase Analytics in those versions could read the advertising identifier (IDFA). Version 2.0.0 removed the advertising identifier and the tracking request.

Changes to this policy

When the app or the website changes how data is handled, we update this page and the effective date at the top.
