Frequently asked questions

Answers apply to File Converter 2.0 and later.

Is File Converter free?

Partly. Downloading the app, converting files and previewing the results are free, and the preview shows the full-quality result with no watermark. Saving converted files to Photos or Files, sharing them and opening them in other apps need File Converter Pro, an auto-renewing subscription: weekly, with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or yearly. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose File Converter and tap Cancel Subscription. If you have Pro, Settings > Manage subscription in File Converter opens the same Apple screen. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all payments and refunds for File Converter. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.

How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?

Make sure the App Store on your iPhone is signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe. Then open File Converter and tap Settings > Restore purchases, or Restore at the bottom of the subscription screen.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. File Converter converts every file on your iPhone, not on a server. The feedback form sends only your message, the email address you add if you want a reply, and a few device details, never files. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Does File Converter work offline?

Yes. Conversions need no internet connection. You only need a connection to buy or restore Pro, to send feedback, and to open a file that is still stored in iCloud Drive, which iOS downloads first.

Which file formats does File Converter support?

Dozens of formats across six groups:

  • Images: opens HEIC, HEIF, JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, BMP, GIF, DNG and PDF pages; saves JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, BMP, GIF or PDF.
  • Video: opens MP4, MOV, M4V, 3GP, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV and MPG; saves MP4 (H.264 or HEVC), MOV, M4V, MKV, AVI or GIF.
  • Audio: opens MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, CAF, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, WMA and AMR, and the sound of any video; saves MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC or AIFF.
  • Documents: turns Word (DOCX, DOC), RTF, TXT, Markdown and HTML files into PDF.
  • PDF tools: merges and splits PDFs; reorders, rotates, deletes and extracts pages; adds page numbers; locks a PDF with a password; compresses PDFs; turns pages into JPG or PNG.
  • Archives: creates ZIP files and opens or extracts them.

Can File Converter convert a video to MP3?

Yes. Open the video from Photos, Files or the Share menu, choose MP3 and pick 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps. File Converter extracts the sound from MP4, MOV and other videos, and can also save it as M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC or AIFF.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone?

Open the HEIC photos from Photos or Files and choose JPG (or PNG). You can convert up to 50 photos at once, resize them, set the quality and remove location data before you save or share them.

Can I turn photos into a PDF?

Yes. Select the photos and choose PDF. File Converter puts them into one PDF with A4, Letter or image-sized pages.

Can File Converter convert Word to PDF?

Yes. File Converter turns Word files (DOCX and DOC) into a paged PDF in A4 or Letter size. It converts RTF, TXT, Markdown and HTML files to PDF the same way.

Can File Converter convert a PDF to Word?

No. File Converter makes PDFs from Word files, not Word files from PDFs. It can turn PDF pages into JPG or PNG images.

Can File Converter open RAR or 7z files?

No. File Converter opens and creates ZIP archives only.

Does File Converter work on iPad?

Yes. File Converter is an iPhone app for iOS 17 or later, and it runs on iPad in its iPhone layout. There is no separate iPad layout.

What do I need to use Ask this file?

Ask this file answers questions about a PDF, Word (DOCX or DOC), RTF, TXT or HTML file and summarizes it, with page references. It needs iOS 26 or later, a device that supports Apple Intelligence, Apple Intelligence turned on in the Settings app, and a language Apple Intelligence supports. It reads files with selectable text and can't read scanned pages. It is free with no question limit, and it runs on your iPhone, so the file never leaves the device.

Which languages is File Converter available in?

English and 30 more: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. The app follows your iPhone's language. To choose another language for File Converter only, tap Settings > Language in the app; it opens the app's page in the iOS Settings app.

Where are my converted files saved?

Every converted file is kept in the File Converter library, in the app's Files tab, where you can rename it, sort it into folders and search for it. To take a file out of the app, tap Save or Share (this needs Pro). With the default setting, Automatic, photos and videos you picked from Photos go back to your photo library and everything else goes to a folder you choose in the Files app; audio, PDFs, documents and ZIP files always go to Files. You can change this in Settings > Default save location.

How do I contact File Converter support?

In the app, tap Settings > Send feedback, or email furkan18388@gmail.com. Add your email address to the form if you want a reply.

Our Privacy Policy explains what the app and this website collect. File Converter uses Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA) as its Terms of Use.
