When should you convert PNG to JPG?
PNG is lossless, which is perfect for logos and UI graphics but wasteful for photos and screenshots of photos: a 4 MB PNG screenshot often becomes a 400–700 KB JPG with no visible difference. Convert when a website rejects large uploads, when an email bounces for size, or when you are archiving lots of screenshots.
Keep PNG when you need transparency or crisp text and line art. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white during conversion.
Private conversion
Your file is opened by your own browser and converted on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no queue, no file-size quota and no copy left on someone else's server. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and the conversion still works.
On an iPhone?
This page works in Safari. iPhone also has a built-in route: in the Files app, long-press a PNG and choose Quick Actions → Convert Image → JPEG. See our PNG to JPG on iPhone guide for screenshots of each step.
